Department Regulation and Compartmentalization of Cellular Functions

Head of the department: Annie SAINSARD-CHANET

ligne séparation   Last update: 16-Feb-2011

The department Regulation and Compartmentalization of Cellular Functions is made up of four groups that study the biogenesis, activity and function of large multi-protein complexes that are associated with, or integrated into, the membranes of different cellular compartments.

The different groups of the department study simple model organisms using a combination of techniques: genetic, biochemical as well as molecular and cell biology. The group of Chantal Astier studies the synthesis, assembly and regulation of the bioenergetic complexes (both photosynthetic and respiratory) of the purple bacteria Rubrivivax gelatinosus. Geneviève Dujardin’s group is interested in the biogenesis and activity of the respiratory complexes and the mitochondrial import machinery of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Nathalie Bonnefoy’s group studies translation in the mitochondria of the yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe and in particular the role of the PPR proteins. Annie Sainsard-Chanet’s group is interested in the role of mitochondria in aging and the determination of lifespan in the filamentous fungus Podospora anserina.

As well as their fundamental interest, these studies also contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for certain human pathologies such as mitochondrial diseases, atherosclerosis, cancer and aging.

The teams are classified following the surname of the team leaders. Please, click on the surname of a leader to go to the Web pages of his (her) team.
