Research interest
We study the molecular mechanisms involved in developmentally programmed DNA rearrangements, using the ciliate Paramecium tetraurelia as a model system. Recent advances from our laboratory have demonstrated that thousands of short germ line DNA sequences, the IESs (Internal Eliminated Sequences) are removed precisely from genes and from other - non coding - genomic regions, within a define time-window during the assembly of the somatic genome. We have also shown that double strand breaks are introduced at IES ends to initiate their excision.
Our group joined the CGM in March 2006, with a financial support from the CNRS (ATIP program in Genetics). Our undergoing work is focused on the identification of protein partners involved in IES excision, using molecular, cellular and genomic approaches.
